Hey all, I'm looking for suggestions of good children's books to get. Here's the ones on my list so far:

  1. The Cat in the Hat
  2. Green Eggs and Ham
  3. Harold and the Purple Crayon
  4. Where the Wild Things Are
  5. Goodnight Moon
  6. The Very Hungry Caterpillar
  7. Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day
  8. Benjamin and Tulip
  9. Some Max board books - any ( Read more... )

Your mom makes a good point about age; I certainly remember this one from later, so it's probably for an older child. I also have to mention Inside, Outside, Upside Down for later; my parents tell me it's the book they found out I could read, when they realized I couldn't have memorized a book they had never read to me.

The Max board books and Very Hungry Caterpillar are what you should concentrate on to start with. Also, any book that helps children learn words. By this, I mean a book that has a picture of a dog, cat, cow, etc. Also, any Sandra Boynton book.

The other books you have mentioned will be over her head until she is at least a year old, if not 18 months.
