Gabrielle set some soft, instrumental music to play, lit some of the peppermint incense she'd picked up last week, and settled onto her bed cross-legged to attempt yet another meditation session. Not the field-medicine kind of work, the poultices and stitches and herbs she'd picked up out of necessity (and proximity to Xena) over the last few years, as useful and practical as that kind of healing could be; she wanted to learn to do what Eli could do. Gabrielle stood on the riverbank, turning her staff over in her hands, feeling the texture of the wood and the leather-and-jute wrapping beneath her fingers. The motion of it was calming, as was the sound of the water lapping at the riverbanks; she needed the calm right now.

All right, so the entire incident with the town where dancing was forbidden had been an amusing enough diversion, but in retrospect, the weekend when Pinkie Pie had been a cult leader and Gabrielle had bought into her message? That should have been a clue.
( Instead, what it turned out to be was an early indicator of what would end up a bit of a trend for Gabrielle’s winter break. )
