Oh my goddess...loooooong story!
When I was in third grade, I suddenly and inexplicably developed this retarded habit of licking my lips constantly. Before long, the poor things were dry, cracked and peeling, and the skin around my lips was red and inflamed. Licking my lips is what caused it, but doing it made it feel better, if only briefly.
I started out wearing regular Lipsyl lip balm, just to heal the damage I caused. Then I moved on to the harder stuff - LIPSMACKERS!!!
Then I discovered that unless I keep my lips hydrated, I develop cold sores galore. When I was 14, I went to New Brunswick and forgot my lipgloss at home. I got FIVE coldsores, three on my upper lip and two on the bottom. Since then, I've never travelled without it.
As for the obsession/fetish...there's just so many yummy smells and tastes! You remember teh kisses in the movie theatre...were those not the tastiest girl kisses evar? ^-^
