I say this because last night I got really scared. When my friend Richard passed away at the beginning of the year, he died in the bathroom of his home. We don't know if he died instantly or if he lay there for some time

don't be embarrassed, my big brother took himself to the emergency room not just once but twice (i guess he'd forgotten about the first time when he got heartburn again the second time) for just that same feeling! I've been having heartburn since I was in college, so I just gave him a hard time about it.... Personally I have an incline wedge pillow I can use when I'm getting acid reflux (because it keeps it down some) AND I keep Rolaids next to the bed (they work really quickly in off-setting the acid).
But yeah, eating too late at night, or having a really spicy dinner which can cause acid reflux as you digest it (ie after you've gone to sleep) are good to avoid. I try to confine my spicy meals to lunch, and then eat an early supper which is not so spicy... but of course I am VERY prone to heartburn and get it all the time. I really should cut out all acid/spices/foods I love out of my diet, but somehow I can't bring my self to do that!
Oh believe me, I briefly thought about driving myself to the emergency room! My stomach was fine though, it was mainly just my chest felt like someone lit a match inside of it.
I saw these Tums instant dissolve powder that say it works instantly and was thinking of getting some on the way home. But I'll also get Rolaids and have them handy too.
Leaving spicy foods for lunch is a good idea. I try to eat pretty early, like around 6, but I'm guilty of always having some cookies or ice-cream before bed.
Agreed, don't be embarassed. I've been having some chest pain on and off over the past six months - mine is really not 'burn' but a small.. pain. Anyway, I even had a stress test done to rule out a heart problem.
I've now learned that I can't eat like I used to. I think I am particularly prone to problems with chocolate, and also I think I was aggravating it by drinking V-8 juice all the time.
My doctor put me on Zantac 150 which I was taking 2X per day for awhile, but now I've weaned off that and am much more cognizant of the whole situation.
Last night I had a cup of water with some baking soda. Someone told me that their hubby does that before bedtime to prevent heartburn. I figured, why not. LOL, it tasted like Alka-Seltzer!
I'm not old, but I'm getting there. I've just got to eat earlier, which actually I do eat pretty early anyway. I think I may just have to cut down the more acidy things in the evening though. That night I had one of those Boboli pizzas. I put some tomato sauce on it with some peppers, onions and tomatoes, and cheese. I'm thinking maybe it was the tomatoes that also might have done it.
That's great to have known a nutritionist! What kind of stuff did she tell you? I'm a vegetarian so I already cut meat from my diet. I do eat eggs. I love eggs! I buy the cage free ones though. I drink soy milk too, but I do buy regular cheese. Other than that, I eat no beef, chicken or seafood.
Gall stones? Oy, how can you feel that in your chest?
That's all I freakin need with my crappy insurance.
I need to see him anyway as a follow up for the meds he's giving me for the depression and anxiety. I'll mention it to him. I got some tums, and since it says you can have it daily as a source of Calcium, I'm going to do that. Hopefully I won't experience that again.
I know! Who would think chest pains from gall stones? The way it was explained to me, and I must admmit, it still doesn't make complete sense, is that the gall stones passing causes the pain to radiate out through your body, and when it goes through your chest area, it really flipping hurts.
This was the only symptom of gall stones I had, and only knew that because a friend of mine had just gone through it.
Other more common symptoms are reactions to greasy foods. This can cause and attack.
I would mention it to your doctor. I had NO other symptoms of gall stones, and if my friend hadn't mentioned it, I never would have gotten it checked out. My doctor even examined me and said it was doubtful, but sent me for the CT scan just in case. I had 3 stones and one huge one ready to pass which would have required emergency surgery had it done so.
I don't want to scare you about this, but do keep it in mind.
Thanks! I'm going to mention it to him for sure then. That's the last thing I need right now, to have to have surgery for anything. I have a hospital deductible of $5K! I don't want to think about getting hospitalized!

I keep forgetting I'm 42. There are just things I can't eat or drink the same way I used to.

I just have to be more careful about what I eat and when in the evenings.

When I got mine it felt sort of like heart burn, only a lot worse! I thought it was a heart attack too. It felt like somebody punched me in the chest.
If your insurance covers it, mention it to the doctor and have them check it out. I believe they have to do a CT scan to see if you have stones.

Are there any other symptoms for the gall stones?
