I’m currently finishing Hal Duncan’s Vellum, the first book of a two-part series concluding with Ink. I like the Jaynes undercurrents at the outset. Furthermore, I always appreciate your take on any kind of cultural output because your perspective tends to be joyful and erudite without being elitist.

Would it be a cop out to say "Everything"? The War on Terror stuff fell a little flat for me, but on the whole it's neck and neck with Steve Aylett's Lint as my favourite book I read last year.

You know, when I was scanning the headings on LJ just now I could have sworn yours said Velum, and I was going quite surprised and excited that you were going to be writing about the anatomy of the oral cavity, as I have spent a good deal of my time in the last few weeks dealing with the respiratory system and speech mechanisms. But alas, there is no soft palate to be found in your writings today :P
