Lily wondered if every Monday morning was going to be like the one she'd endured. First, she'd had to prod Sirius out of bed and argue him into getting ready for work. Then, she'd had to endure repeated words of caution from the men in the household. And then, she'd listened to a few of Sirius' parting words regarding Severus - none of which were kind.
In short, if every Monday morning was going to be like this, she thought she'd just quit them.
After doing a bit of cleanup in the kitchen and wondering - though briefly - about the silence in the house, Lily had headed out to the shop. She'd checked on a couple of her potions, adjusting one and moving to the next step of another, before she'd left.
She did feel guilty about what she was doing, but only slightly. Strangely, it was more Severus' caution from long ago that made her feel the most guilty, rather than James and Sirius' words that morning. She had wondered a little about that, but the answer was simple enough - Severus had more of an idea of what was going on than James and Sirius did.
Strolling along Diagon, window shopping a bit, she let her feet carry her past the Prophet's offices. She did stay on the other side of the street, and she didn't gawk - though she noticed some witches and wizards still were. There was an air over the street that made Lily shiver, though it had nothing to do with temperature.
It was like it was starting all over again. The pattern was there - a death here, a disappearance there, all marked to show the world they were linked, related - and it terrified her in a very real, very fundamental way.
Once or twice might have been dismissable - unlikely, but possibly. This was ... far too much. There was definitely something going on, and she was afraid. She had little doubt that the Muggleborns and half-bloods would be the targets again, and Lily hugged herself though the motion did little to comfort her.
Emerald eyes played over the few witches and wizards she did see on the street to determine if she recognized any of them ... or if someone looked like they needed someone to talk to.
