Three days. He was three days returned to the Island, along with his twin and a small host of others (and by host he meant simply Nita and her sister), and George didn't think he'd ever missed magic quite so much. It was like for the briefest of moments he'd been reminded what it was like to be a whole person again, a whole wizard, and with it ( Read more... )

George wasn't any stranger to amusing himself for a specific period of time. In fact, he'd often found that without the comforts of magic in his everyday life that he very much did enjoy reading books, though he tended to go for the titles that had less to do with Potions and more to do with superheroes and the like. When she asked him to wait, therefore, George was perfectly happy to sit in an armchair near the bookshelf and amuse himself for the ten minutes that it took her.

To be honest, he didn't keep track. It really wasn't that important in the grander scheme.

He glanced up when she returned and half-smiled at her. "Hey," he said back, and closed the book before replacing it back on the bookshelf (because leaving it open wouldn't have been any good at all). Her hair was still wet, and while he could have told her that there wasn't a rush, that she could have dried herself off more before going out if she wanted, he didn't. He lifted his sack by its handles instead. "Been better," he admitted, only when they were ( ... )

In the compound, her hair took hours to dry anyway. She walked out into the sun, squinting upward. "There's a hill," she said - less than helpful, but she lead the way. It only took about ten minutes - the bluff overlooking the waterfall was a quiet one, and thankfully empty. "I usually don't see people here," she admitted with a shrug. "Is it okay for you?"

She'd been better, too - been a lot better, honestly.

He hadn't been eating all that much since the return, and he was pretty sure that Nita hadn't either. That was the reason for the chocolate in his sack, and also for the pieces of fruit and the bread he'd picked up from the kitchen left over from the night's supper. He looked out to where Nita pointed and nodded. It was as good a place as any of them, he figured, and it would mean he wouldn't have to carry her that long a distance when she'd drunk so much she nearly passed out.

It was what George expected. If the last party they'd been at was any indication, it was what she intended to do. By George's estimation, she probably had the need to cut loose after an experience like they'd had. That's what he was there for. He was her friend (and, sadly, he was now almost certain that was all he was), and he was going to get her to relax, Gods damn it ( ... )

"Yeah," she said quietly, swallowing hard as she looked out over this place.

"It's kind of empty, isn't it." She looked over the island, her brows knitting as she tried to just... not think about it. Not really the good way to do things, but it was certainly a way to do things.

A way. Maybe that's how she should look at it.

"So what's in the bag?" She rubbed the back of her neck for a second before finally sitting on the ground and leaning back on her elbows. God, she felt like she could just lay back and sleep forever.

It wasn't an actually well thought-out picnic or anything, because things had just sort of ended up in the bag. He'd planned on the bottle of liquor, then the chocolate had been an afterthought while running out of the hut. The food from the kitchen had been yet another afterthought when he considered that he hadn't had much of anything to eat yet that day. Unpacking it was sort of haphazard, like the rest of it had been already. He didn't even have cups, but he didn't think that Nita would mind so much ( ... )
