Rarely (and generally to make fun of Texans), hockey is referred to as "yankee flatball."

"Broomball" is a little confusing, as both your meaning and the traditional meaning refer to activities where Canadians get drunk and do silly things. The silly things they do, however, and the injuries they sustain while doing them are quite different between the two cases.

Hm. That's true. I spose it could be 'ice ball' or maybe just stricken, since they really do have handles, making them not quite "balls".
