Yes, there was a minor clearing out of friends, communities, and feeds.

It's nothing personal.

I keep thinking of doing that, but I'm terrified of the drama.

Go you!

Mostly, I cut: people who had already cut me; people I am no longer in contact with.

There were some other ones which were tempting to cut, but a) I'm not interested in the drama, b) it's handy to be able to read their posts on rare occasion, even though c) I use filters so that those folks can't read much of what I post and so that I don't have to read them.

When I first joined LJ back in 2004, I had very little idea of the social model. I asked the friend who recruited me what the benefit of Friending someone was. Her reply:Besides that, it lists you under her "Friends" on her info page. Which means someday, when somebody is bored and thinks their own friends aren't generating enough jabber, they'll randomly wonder who this squidlet guy is, and randomly friend you. Then their friends page will show them all your public posts -- but not your friends posts, unless you friend them back.

Eventually, you will have a list of maybe a dozen people you actually know and two dozen others you don't, some with language barriers involved, and every time you check your friends page you'll wonder why 50 entries doesn't even cover back to yesterday afternoon. Then you'll un-friend some of the less dazzling people, and they'll get offended and crusade to have you taken off all their friends' friends lists. Then and only then can you consider yourself a true LJer.

That's because she doesn't understand how to filter the friends page so you only see people you give a fuck about. :)

Also, I'm slightly OCD about LJ (I check about 30-50+ times a day), so I need to keep enough friends and feeds around that there's new stuff from time to time.

Hello :) I'm hanging a comment here because when I tried to reply to your note from yesterday using LJ message it's telling me it won't go through. Yes, you know me--although when pixink told me you were meeting her at her place too I didn't know that I know *you* :)

*hugs*
