i know a guy who goes there and he says "fuck pretty much everyone at nyu" thats a QUOTE. he said that exactly. i imagine the folks who go there are all pseudoitelluctuals and/or SCENESTERS. i could not DEAL with that shit. i would probably be forced to smack a dude.
indeed... someone should invent one of those 'wack-a-mole' games but instead of wacking/smacking moles one could do it with scenesters.
Can you find alternative housing in NYC - is the housing the only thing that's not falling into place?
the problem is some places have a bigger mythology around them than perhaps they deserve. Some universities have it - NYU, UCLA, the Ivy League ones if that's what one is into; some cities certainly have it (NYC, London, Paris, Prague, Insert-your-fav-Euro-city-here). The mythology and dreams we have about such places grow to be bigger and unrealistic than any place could possibly live up to or fulfill. Dunno what can be done about that... I dream bigger than any place or person or job can fulfill. NYU is a holy grail - but maybe there are other places that are good too...no?
Oh, and BTW, I'd just like to add that San Francisco, while beautiful, does NOT, NOT belong on the list with NYC, London etc. The Beats lived here but it's no fabled land of love, lemme tell ya that.
Renting an apartment for six weeks would not only be complicated but it would mean the end of my college career due to lack of funds. Credits at NYU are nearly two grand each, so even that was pushing it. And then they taunt me with their $60 a week housing...fuckers. I should have known.
It's possable that I could commute. I'm still thinking about it. Four hours a day, two days out of the week for six weeks...a small price to pay for premimum education.
I nearly studied in at an art school in San Francisco a few years ago, which was much cheaper, but me and my parents were even more broke then. Well, actually I could afford it, but I was I forced to buy a nice used car from the side of the road instead. It turned out the be the right choice, I guess.
One of my friend's brothers goes to NYU. I think he is majoring in chemical engineering. He really likes obscure late 70's early 80's punk stuff. Think what you will.
