When these ants first started showing up, someone mentioned something on the journals about going up to the nest and poisoning the lot of them. Does that mean someone here knows where their nest is ( Read more... )

I wholeheartedly agree with you. On the other hand, it seems that the ants have a history of attacking other residents without provocation. I wasn't here for that, so I'm not about to tell people that they're wrong to think of their own safety first.

Lezard actually wrote about what was causing them pain. He did an autopsy on the first ant that showed up in order to figure out the disease.

His notes were informative about what happened, but they do nothing to answer the question of why. The Sphere is very small, ecologically speaking - most of us might be glad that the ants are dying, but our existence surely depends on them one way or another. It would be foolish not to investigate further.

He mentioned a genetic anomaly, so I assumed mutation. If that means natural selection has decided to pick them off specifically, I can't say my feelings are terribly hurt over it.

But hey, if you want to get up close and personal to investigate it, by all means.

I think it has. It just doesn't end well for the explorers or the Tree doesn't allow you very far.
