Unwelcome News The illusion dropped when TaeWoon was halfway up the walk toward the school, and his eyes narrowed at the yells he could hear inside. He took the steps two at a time and without pausing, blasted the doors open. The hallway was clear, so he hesitated a moment to decide where to go. Either the control room as she called it, or her bedroom. He scowled and decided on the control room. She wouldn't have given up the search yet.
He caught someone out of the corner of his eye, but when he turned, no one stood there. He knew he would be followed and held his power ready to blast anyone he saw, no matter who it was. Up the stairs, around the corner toward the professor's office, and he stopped for just a moment at the two girls - girls, not even real team members - standing in front of the office door.
Smart, actually, he decided when he remembered what they could do.
So this would take more than just hitting them and getting past. Well… he could do that, too.
Neither girl was ready for the barrage he sent at them, smashing them into the walls on either side of the door. Chanmi gave out first, her body less adept at defending against him, and he could turn his attention to HwaYoung, pounding her with his concussion beams until she was through the wall and laying still. He knew he didn't have time, so he blew the door open and stepped in.
And froze, eyes wide, staring into JongKook's gaze. He couldn't move his legs, arms, or head - not even his eyes. He raged internally, so close, only to realize that she wasn't there.
Not there? How did they know? How could…. Had he been wrong? Had they been wrong? Then something struck his head, and it all went black.
"Chanmi is fine and taking out her aggression and her extra strength in the danger room," Gyuri reported. "HwaYoung got up, brushed herself off, and might have hit him if he weren't unconscious."
ChangMin rubbed his head. "Yes," he said. "I can tell that. Thank you, Gyuri."
She bowed and let herself out.
"She wants to come back," Kibum said.
"I don't want her back until he's back to normal," Changmin said. "She can stay there a while."
"She likes the horses," Kibum said randomly, and grinned at ChangMin's glare. "Noori's on his way."
ChangMin nodded and looked back at the student restrained so tightly he couldn't move, even if he were awake to do so. "I wish Nicole's power worked the other way, too," he said idly. "I'd feel better if she could dim it until he couldn't do anything. Given enough time, he'll be able to get out of that. He's been working hard on that." He sighed. "And he's been enhanced. I don't know how, but he feels stronger than he did before he vanished."
"Hopefully Noori will be able to help with that, and Taewoon can tell us," Kibum said. "And JongKook is right outside. He can hold him if necessary." Kibum rubbed his shoulder. "As soon as this is done, I'm having KwangHaeng take us to those hot springs. He can get us three days later if necessary."
ChangMin shook his head. "I couldn't leave them that long."
Noori showed up in the doorway, JongKook behind him. "You wanted me?" he asked.
ChangMin straightened. "I need you to see if you can restore his memories."
Noori bit his lip and ventured further in, skirting the bed easily to reach the head of it. "I don't know if it'll work while he's asleep," he said.
"Do your best," ChangMin told him. "If not, we'll wake him up and you can do it then."
Noori nodded, then after a short, intense stare at Taewoon, closed his eyes.
ChangMin could feel him working. He leaned wearily against Kibum, keeping an eye - and both of his powers - on TaeWoon. He began to wake up and ChangMin stiffened, narrowing his own talent for any sign of the anger or fury from before, or even that cold purpose that had made him shiver when he first felt it, so unlike this student. But no, only confusion, and then sorrow and a crushing guilt. No matter what, though, he could feel that was all TaeWoon, not the soulless weapon that had crashed through the doors.
"I think that's everything," Noori said, sounding tired as he stepped back away from the bed again.
"Thank you," ChangMin said to both Noori and JongKook, and the two boys bowed before letting themselves out.
TaeWoon opened his eyes and looked around. ChangMin squared his shoulders and stood, stepping into his line of sight. He could feel Kibum pulling in his own power and hoped he wouldn't have to use it. "How are you feeling?" he asked Taewoon.
Kibum snorted. Taewoon winced. "I'm… sure you can tell me better than I can," he said without meeting ChangMin's gaze. "How are Chanmi and HwaYoung?"
"Chanmi is down in the danger room, doing her best to destroy it," Kibum said, and TaeWoon started in surprise. "HwaYoung is asleep. They're both a bit bruised and pretty angry, but they're fine. No lasting damage."
"Why asleep?"
ChangMin smiled. "Because she needs to sleep, and because we wouldn't let her go visit HyoYoung."
Taewoon went pale, guilt and fear waring in him. "But… HyoYoung is okay?"
"Impatient to be back, or so KwangHaeng tells me," Kibum said.
"I'll have Gyuri in here to get you out of that," ChangMin said, "and then you need to tell me what happened and who did that to you." And after that conversation, he might well let Kibum kidnap him off to the hot springs.
