Distractive Measures The number of people approaching would have frightened Sungmin if he'd let it. But he knew better than to think on that, and he glanced to his left, where SooHyun-hyung stood, water bottle dangling from one hand. He had a determined expression on his face. A glance up showed him where Yesung-sshi flew, and he widened his stance a bit. He couldn't do both of them at the same time (yet), and he wasn't even sure Yesung-sshi would scream at him, but he was as ready as he could be.
"Ready?" SooHyun asked, his voice carrying through the noise of the statues the Language Arts teacher, Park Yoochun-sshi, had animated.
"Yes," SungMin said, nodding just in case SooHyun hadn't heard him.
The people came closer, scattering some, and with a sixth sense he'd developed from working so much with SooHyun, SungMin heard the older student open his mouth and turned to catch his scream.
This gave him the opportunity to try some of the things they'd talked about. He scattered it this time, concentrating so hard on making it so that none of the people hit were next to each other. He did pretty well, but it lessened the effect of the blast. He frowned, but still had time; they weren't stopping. Hitting everyone with the scream did the same, diluting it, and it incapacitated those on their side as well. Slowly and carefully, as often as SooHyun screamed at him, SungMin tried things until he knew what worked best, and then used those randomly, trying to keep the people off guard. It soon became a matter of will, forcing the sound to do what he wanted, and he knew he was getting tired. But SooHyun's screams were as strong and even as ever, and he gritted his teeth and focused.
He heard a sharp 'pop' next to him, and then something slammed into his head and he knew no more.
