Notes: LOL I SHOULD CALL MYSELF PREACHY MCPREACHERPANTS AFTER THIS. Whatevs. The only thing I hate more than people who pointlessly ascribe outdated gender roles to people in couples is people who act like it's offensive to be labeled as female or feminine or 'the girl'. Way to combat homophobia with misogyny, y'all!

Omgd, hai there! Despite not having your wonderful way with the written word, I had a personal rant on this over at my journal sometime ago, a slightly different reincarnation of your author's note-- if not as articulated eloquently I'd have liked it to be. *sheepish grin*

This is all kindsa gorgeous. ♥ I'm so glad that you finally posted this at k_b!

Thank you so much! You're very kind. And I love the rant you posted, and the fact that you brought up that it's often an issue of power dynamics, not gender as most people will usually attribute it to. <3 Much love.

Yes! Thank you for writing this! I hate it when I see people, especially women, saying "Kurt's not a GIRL!!" True, Kurt isn't a girl, but he is rather feminine, and there is nothing wrong with that! I was just thinking about this the other day: with kids, it's perfectly fine for a girl to be a tomboy. I know some parents who are really proud that their daughters are tomboys - which is fine, having pride in your kids is great. But god forbid a boy act a little bit girly. Then you have (some) parents trying to make them act more like a man. Because, you know, being a boy is okay. But girls are inferior and should be treated accordingly. /sarcasm

Anyway, I loved this (as I do all your fics, although I don't comment much), and I'm so glad you decided to post it!

Honestly, I think it is because girls read slash/yaoi to not have to relate to the girl in het-pairing. If you related to Kurt and you feel yourself as a Top, it could be frustrating to see him as a submissive-bottom = girl.

I have a big, long theory about why girls love slash so much, maybe one day I will be able to write it in english ^^"

Thank you so much :) I definitely agree. Femininity is often perceived as a failure rather than a strong and positive character trait.

The 'worst' thing you can call a woman is woman-gendered insults. (Slut, bitch, cunt, etc.) The 'worst' thing you can call a man are woman-gendered or perceived-as-woman-gendered insults. (Pussy, fag, etc.)

And thanks so much for the comment here. You're very kind. <3

You are totally right in your note. Usually, the worst you can call a guy is a girl and that is so stupid. How could that ever be offensive? And when did girl become the equivalent of weak?
The fact that people think about the gay man who bottom as inferior to the ones who top makes me retch. It's simply disgusting.

But great fic, I found it endearing the way they treated each other.

I love this fic and your reasoning behind it. This has bothered me a lot too with Kurt being called too feminine or too stereotypical. I hate that to be a "good gay role model" you suddenly have to be completely butch and not show any weakness (aka anything that could be construed as girly). Kurt is just himself, without worrying if he's too gay or not gay enough for society, and that's a large part of why I love him. (now I'm getting preachy lol)

Anyway, your fic was perfect in showing how strong he is, and Blaine having a harder time and being too overprotective. I could totally see them having this conversation.

I love Kurt because he has so many of those 'stereotypical' traits, because he has so many 'feminine' traits, but at the same time, he's also very much his own person, and so much more than just a stereotype. I agree so much with you right there.

♥ Thank you so much. I love Kurt's inner strength, just as much as I love Blaine's insecurities, and loved writing this scene. So, thanks.
