Anime Expo 2010 con report!

So, my husband and I went to AX this year for two days, Fri/Sat. Unfortunately, we were both morons and didn't remember to bring the camera, so there will be no photos. D: Perhaps later we will do a mini photo shoot together. We went as Mai and Sokka from Avatar (a weird couple of characters since they don't interact much, but oh well).

When we checked into the hotel on Friday, it was SUPER sketchy. There was a lady out front who was clearly on something and dressed like a prostitute. When we went to check in, the manager was surprised that we wanted to pay with a card and not cash. Then when we got to the room it was AWFUL! Smudges all over the walls, bathroom floor obviously had not been swept, hair in the towels, wall smashed where the door handle would hit it, remote didn't work, tv super fuzzy, lamp cracked and missing a chunk (but turned toward the wall so hopefully people didn't notice!?), bedspread kinda smelled like pee, but the strangest was that there were FOOTPRINTS ON THE CEILING!!! I really should have just said let's go somewhere else, but I'm just too cheap sometimes. The room was only $55, but it should have been 20. Live and learn for next year.

We got dressed and went to the convention. We had circled things on the schedule that we wanted to do, but didn't have anything immediately that we needed to do. We wandered around the dealer's room and artist alley. I actually said Hi to some of the people I watch on DA! Which is an improvement from last year. Then I went to a cosplay makeup and special effects panel, which was SO LAME. The lady spent the first 20 minutes talking about cleaning brushes, and repeated herself several times! I was not about to sit through that for several hours.

We got some super-expensive lunch, shopped some (I bought a really sweet onigiri pillow!) Wandered around and did some other stuff (manga lounge, watched anime, etc.) and went back to the Nasty Inn.

The next day we packed up, checked out, and went to the AMV rescreening. I was really impressed, there were some good ones! Some, I feel, only won because everyone luuurves FMA (gag), but others ("and now a word from our sponsers") were AMAZING. Then we had a few hours to get lunch and go to the masquerade. This was so ridiculous b/c they told us we needed to get there at 6 which was when they started seating. In actuality we could have shown up 10 min. before 8 and been fine. Also, nobody knew where we were supposed to wait AND we paid $30 ea. for tickets in awful seats when we could have gone for free! I feel like there are a lot of people out there who are a lot more savvy about this con thing than I am.

The masq was pretty cool it was my first time going to one at AX. Seeing the kinds of acts that were there really gave me the confidence to possibly put one together for next year, since they weren't really anything I couldn't have come up with. Afterward, I passed by Pikminlink in the hall, but was to shy to say anything! I am such an idiot! :( What do I say, "I'm a really big fan!" ??? Everything I can think of just makes me sound like a creeper!

Overall, there definitely were some low points and some high points, I may try fanime next year, since I think organizationally this one has gotten a bit out of hand.
