The annual Column Awards took place last Monday celebrating North Texas theater. I have no idea who it was among the Upstart group that was making the insulting comments, but I was told that it continued for some time during the awards show and that some of the other theater folk sitting near them finally spoke up to make them stop. I was surprised to hear this, since I knew there were gay people associated with the theater company. If it was some friends who came with the theater company members and not the members themselves, they should have said something to their friends to explain that was not appropriate and it was bothering the people around them. Even if they were only joking, that kind of "joke" is not funny in this day and age (especially when they keep doing it over and over)
