It's not news to most that the iPhone's release in Canada on July 11th will bring with it a pricetag which goes beyond just the purchase of hardware. Those who have been paying attention are aware that the only carrier for the iPhone in Canada is Rogers. Koodo is owned entirely by Telus.

The Iphone isn't a bad idea in and of itself, hell if I had the money I'd get one myself. {Aside from the fact that I get 50% plans} but it's the money that you have to pay to get even the most basic of plans coupled with the fact that you see nothing but complaining about monopolies etc. that get me.

It may be a horrible idea, but it's extremely well marketed.

Much like the Nintendo Wii, not high def, not next gen by any stretch of the imagination, BUT it's extremely popular and outselling the two high def consoles.

It's not the iPhone I have an issue with, it is Rogers' dominance over the wireless market. There needs to be more competition so that one company cannot charge such astronomical rates. In Europe and Asia there is so much competition that wireless rates are cheap and affordable. Companies have to really show good customer service in order to keep their customers. Rogers does not have to do that, and neither do Bell or Telus. When my Telus contract is up, I'm likely switching to Virgin Mobile ( ... )

Maybe I'm just so surprised that a big company will actually care about its customers. Often companies like Apple and Microsoft just don't care, so when they show a real sign of solidarity with their customers, I think maybe there is hope after all.

XP isn't being sold after yesterday, but apparently technical support will be available for much longer than they originally said it would.

I'm just really glad that Rogers is getting what they deserve.
