"You both know the truth and the truth will set you free."

What is the truth in this case?

The Word. I think.
I was attempting to determine the connotations of 'know' in this sentence. Spanish has two verbs, for example, that mean 'to know' -- conocer (to know a person, to be familiar with) and saber (to know something). Is the truth a message or a person? What type of knowledge is being referenced here?

I'm not sure about the connotation of cognosco here, but veritas is pretty clearly not talking about a person. Its definition include (in my dictionary): the truth, reality; truthfulness, telling of truth; in general, honesty.

< nods > I think truth is probably metaphorical here, though, so I'm looking at 'know' for clues as to precisely what it is.
