Today, we have Butterick 7439. According to http://www.cemetarian.com, this pattern was published in 1955. I'm not quite sure about this one. It's growing on me. I wasn't so sure when I looked in the mirror, but I like in in the pictures.

It's cute, but I think you're right about the skirt. I also think I'd prefer it with a fabric that has more pattern to it.

And may I just say OH MY GOD! Those shoes! Gorgeous! Are they one of the new pairs?

You can't tell in the picture, but it's a small gingham check. No, those shoes aren't new, but I don't wear them often because the heel is over 4in.

I really like this dress! I think Lisa is right though about maybe a bolder pattern?
