Simplicity 1373

I fell in love with the pattern the minute I laid eyes on it. The scooped waist seam is an interesting detail I hadn’t seen before. The option of long sleeves is appealing, as I don’t have many long sleeved patterns. The princess seamed bodice is something I hadn’t tried on vintage patterns before. So many new details to try ( Read more... )

Thanks! Yeah, sometimes I just get really tired of messing with my hair and cut it all off.

It's fab! The waistline really elongates your torso but it does so without losing your waist and lovely hourglass, so it's a win!

Your hair looks real sharp too!

Are you going to enter this in PR's Vintage Pattern Contest?

Yay! I'm glad you've entered! I have my fingers crossed that I'll get my dress done in the next couple days myself.

What method did you use to grade the pattern up? I'm lost when it comes to things like that. On a modern-multi-size pattern I can wing changing it a size or two, and I'll play around with small increments on the seams and darts, but I've never undertaken a big change on a vintage pattern before.

Oh,no! I hope I don't have to compete against you! How I grade depends on how much smaller the pattern is. On a size 38 (my FB is 44), I usually just add an inch to the side seam. That, plus the built-in ease, usually fits. If I need more than that, I copy to newspaper, then cut it vertically and spread it throughout the pieces. The only problem with adding throughout the bodice is sometimes it's not enough for the sleeve. If you've only added an inch to the side seams (of bodice and sleeve) you might need to do a full bicep adjustment, which keeps the sleeve head curve length the same, but adds fabric only at the bicep. Many of my patterns are 12-14in smaller than I, so I've had more experience with smaller patterns than ones that fit.
