Prop 8 is about so much more than gay marriage; It's about testing the temperature of tolerance, and nudging the moral compass to find a new north that better serves today's society. Sadly California seems to have lost its way, but ultimately I believe at its core our state is a progressive one and we'll hit the right direction come 2010. Here's

California is like a big lab experiment in the possible pitfalls of direct Democracy. Whether it's an oversimplified visceral reaction to a crisis (Recall of Gov. Davis) or the enshrinement of popular bigotry in the constitution (prop 8).

I actually think the recent state supreme court decision was legally correct, if not morally, pragmatically, or idealistically correct. By the letter of the law it was formally correct, and we expect our courts to stand on formality more than our legislatures.

The ultimate solution is yet another referendum, and the demographics on this issue are inexorable.
