RUM

I didn't mean to go two months between posts. My personal life has been a bit crazy lately. I actually have two posts in mind. One I've been thinking about for a while, and this one about RUM. Of course, I also meant to post right after the event while everything was still fresh in my mind. Better late than never, as my mom says.

You did such a nice job dancing at the hafla, and I really liked your period-inspired singing at, er, 2 am.

Agreed about the night classes - we drove hard to be able to make the 7 pm classes Fri, but then the bunk signup system was so disorganized that we had to blow them off. If they'd been later, say 9, that would've worked.

Are saris cool? I mean to get around to investigating ME and North African garb, since I live at 30dN-same-as-Cairo with 90%humidity, but I'm stuck in pregnancy-pleat land at present.

Oh, thank you. I love learning new choreographies and interacting with the other dancers, but there is something to be said for losing yourself in the music and just letting your body do what it wants.

Well, registration opening severly late did not help, I'm sure. The entire organizational structure for the event was a bit disorganized. I agree that later might be better.

Saris are very cool. The are also period if you wear them wrapped so the fall is behind you and you have your hair braided with things in it (all this is according to Jadi, so I completely trust it). Under the sari I was wearing a thin cotton choli (the top), an ankle length cotton skirt, and a pair of bloomers. There are several good Indian stores in Atlanta that sell saris in a variety of colors and fabrics.

Hopefully pregnancy-pleat land is at least fruitful. But don't forget to rotate your crops. ;-)

The sari Andreva had on came from a store in Decatur and they must have had over a hundred different types....some beautiful and some just plain ugly. (The one she was wearing used to be a wall covering in my home...but now has a better use, ie clothing). They also had them in different fabrics. Andreva's was one of the lighter ones (kind of a synthetic silk type fabric). They will typically show you how to wear it as well...if you are ever in Atlanta you should stop by there (they sell the cholis too).
