Gotta love fake hair! My natural hair is layered, with the longest layers barely reaching my shoulder-blades and the shortest just below my chin. I bought fake hair that matched mine and braided it with a ponytail holder at each end. I pulled my hair back into a ponytail, wrapped it in a bun, bobby-pinned it, and wrapped it in a net. Then I wrapped the fake braid around the bun and pinned it. It stays all day (including through LOTS of dancing) without hurting or pulling. I can wear it under a caul or coif for late period, as it for early period, or pin a veil to it for anything in-between. The pearls are simple plastic pearl bead on the wire-type u-shaped bobby-pins.

I was about to say, is that all your hair? I like taping mine, now that it's getting to ridiculous lengths, but yours looks lovely.

If I had longer hair, I might tape it. Someone has offered to do it for me, and I might let them try. I just don't think there is enough. This is something I can do myself without a mirror (except for the putting in the ponytail part).

May Tourney's held at the same site as Silver Hammer. More often then not it falls on Mother's Day weekend.

Black Gryphon, their collegium, is actually held at Fall Creek Falls which is northwest of Chattanooga - usually around the 3rd weekend in February. If you decide to go to BG, let me know and I'll get you directions to that site. (Because the ones on any website or flyer I've ever seen coming from this direction involve "go up the mountain and turn right" instead of go up and down the mountain ~30 miles and turn right at the sign for the park.) Fall Creek Falls has one long dormitory that's heated/enclosed. There's an upstairs and a downstairs with a huge unisex bathroom on each floor. There's four classrooms (with sliding walls I think - they open it up for court) above the feast hall. Quite a lovely site IMO.

Love the purple Italian! I gotta figure out how to do hair taping with my (now) short hair.

But yes, you must come back. You don't know how bad I hated to miss that event. I was just so exhausted, there was no way I could make the drive from Tifton twice in the same weekend! *sigh*

Remember sometime back when I asked you about the dancing award and the fellow that had gotten High School Students into dancing? That was Iazzzie. :-)

Fake hair is a wonderful thing. :-)

I will definitely be at Silver Hammer. Just trying to figure out if I can make it to Black Gryphon and May Tourney. So many events, and only so much time, energy, and money.

AH! I had met his wife at Boru & Dee's Coronation in my dance class, but this was the first time I had met him. Don't know if you heard, but he was given the award from the ladies of the group at Silver Hammer.

I don't know if I'll be at Black Gryphon. It's a nightmare of a day-trip (coming out of those mountains in the dark ....) and if I'm going to drive that far, I want to see my family for at least part of the weekend.

And yeah, our cooks will rock your socks.

I did hear. I've seen some photos -- I so wish I could have been there. It was *so* deserved!

Will you be at Castle Wars?

No, I will not. It is too cold the camp (the last two years I have had to leave early from getting severely ill in the cold), and it is too far to day-trip when there is nothing going on during the day I am interested in.

Cold cabins at Silver Hammer francesca_tessa November 25 2007, 16:17:31 UTC
Next year when you go bring a roll or 2 of plastic and a staple gun to plastic up the upper windows. If you are lucky you will find a cabin where that has already been done. We usually try to bring rugs or blankets to cover the floor as well. That and draping the bed with hangings. One year (and this is why we call it "Shiver Hammer") one lady brought a kerosene heater. It snowed, but we stayed warm but I had to wash every textile I had as they reeked of the fuel (ugh).

Another option is we need to get with a bunch of us together and reserve one of the heated cabins on site!
