Crap. I don't think I'm going to get the hairnet done in time for MidWinter. I need a head, preferably styrafoam so I can stick pins in it. And more time to fiddle with it than just two weeks. Oh well, at least I can probably get the new green belt done.

If you can get to a Michael's, you can probably get a head-sized styrofoam ball, and put that on a stick ("on a steeck!").

Cutting off the bottom so it is flat would probably be easier. I need it to be able to stand on its own and stay still while I tie knots.

You'd still need to elevate it on something while you do the lower part of the net, assuming you're doing one that hangs down.
