Help me become more musical

This post is mainly asking for advice, so just scroll down to below the cut if you don't want a huge amount of background waffle. On the other hand, if you'd like to hear me talk music (and isn't it interesting that I can get away with using those words despite the lack of sound involved), read on.

See if there is anyone you can meet up to play with, or sing with, semi-regularly?

The only time I have managed to consistently practice the guitar was bashing out chords to sing along to with friends. Depends very much what style you want to be able to play - it is unlikely to work so well with classical spanish guitar. However the internet is full of many chords for many fine songs.

I'd be quite interested in turning up to occasional jamming sessions/singalongs, subject to usual constraints on time and distance.
