I keep trying to get to responding to comments on the last two posts, but this week has been pretty hectic.  And I found something today that had to be shared here and raged over here.

First, it starts with this.

Then, this study.

I have no response to the first link that isn't blind, frothing rage.  I can already hear a specific subset of men ("I'm ( Read more... )

Oh I could've told you the boys need role models too--it's a tightrope suggestion, because I've been accused of siding with rapists when I say THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THEM THAT WE AS A SOCIETY SHOULD BE TRYING TO CORRECT. But there is!

(as a feminist, this is why I want to have boys AND girls--because my boys need a role model like their father will be and my daughters need to learn about love and respect from their daddy and AUGH he is going to be an awesome father I digress but--like your brother! And we could get into a whole side conversation about lack of male role models in boys' life [especially say in the African-American demographic] but, yeah, it's important.)

♥ ♥ ♥ and every day we soldier on.

*applauds*

Nothing but applause for everything you said.

I have seen that first link before, and yeah, there was an "it was meant as a parody!" bunch on Tumblr. Which, NO. Any misogynist who looked at that wouldn't SEE it as a parody.

The second one- shit, that is alarming. You know what else disturbs me? I've read the letters section of FHM, and there are submissions from lady readers? Saying things like "my boyfriend/brother/male friend thinks I'm cool because I read your magazine from cover to cover". There are a lot of letters like that. The magazine prints them all the time. For their self-vindication', I suppose: "look! See? The ladies say it's okay!" Gag.

And the other thing that concerns me: how many of these ladies read misogynist talk in articles and just see it as a "cool", "one-of-boys" attitude?

Yeah. Another problem.

D: the world we live in.

... Okay, I'm using that advert and asking all prospective suitors whether they think that actually works or not. The boys who answer "yes" shall be thoroughly kicked out onto the street. :/ So as you said, I love men, but not the stupid ones. XD

Apparently, it's not just the teenage girls who need better role models. It's the boys, too, lest they grow up thinking this kind of bullshit is perfectly all right or, God forbid, that women want that kind of man boy. Boy.

Could not agree more. I still cannot believe guys like Chris Brown and Charlie Sheen are allowed to walk around in public. It's no wonder boys think it is okay to treat women like trash, look at how the law lets these people get away with it.

GUH. I'M SO MAD RIGHT NOW.

Everything you said and your brother is a saint. Just... UGH. HOW HARD IS IT? I mean, we got gay marriage legalized and it's continuing to happen in most states, so what's up with the not giving women equal rights? I mean, seriously?

Meaning that we're so progressive and moving on and so all up on equal rights, but not women. God forbid it's for JUST women.

Just. UGH. UUGGGGHHHH.

Everything you said.

I heard before about part of this- about the correlation between things convicted rapists say and things that lad mags say. But- that it's been taken a step further and that men can actually relate more to things rapists say... that's pretty fucking unsettling....
