Drive by cry for organization help

So I have this nail polish addiction. Right now they are in a box on my counter but I need them OFF my counter and on the wall. Should I just break down and get one of these clear acrylic wall mounts that salons use? Could I use a spice rack? None of my polishes are more than 3.5 inches tall, I'm wondering what else I could do. The acrylic stand is ( Read more... )

How cute would a spice rack be? This is my grandmother's spice, in our (messy) kitchen. Picturing this in a rainbow of colors makes me happy:

Yes!! That's exactly what I was thinking, too, a rainbow of color on my bathroom wall!
I love your grandma's spice rack, I wish my kitchen had more wall space! I'd be putting everything on the walls. ;-)

The best way I've found to search Pinterest is to google "Pinterest nail polish holder" and hit images. Haha. No account needed!

a lot of people use the little wood spice racks from ikea. they're like $3 a pop and hold a good amount.

Hmmm, it might mean a trip to ikea (2 hours away) but dangit, I guess I'm up for it.
Spice racks might be the route I take while I design my own to talk my dad into helping me build. :-)

Moldings (profiles you can see in bottom photo) from Home Depot, (they cut them but I had my brother to shave them a bit because they weren't exact and didn't fit, and drilled holes), spray painted, mounted to wall with screws. I left a little too much space between, because I allowed each shelf to house the tallest polish. I will likely remove them, patch holes and tighten that space, to accommodate the other shelves I need to add since I did this project (which also need to be shaved, drilled and painted). This is all housed in the closet that's in my bathroom dressing area, over the shelf where I keep makeup, hairclips, jewelry and such.

Oh, I like! But I worry about them falling. My kids slam a lot of doors and I can see it now, SLAM and then CRASH and the CRY cause I have to clean up broken nail polish bottles. I wonder if you could rig a thin wire or something to hold them in?
And I like yours organized by color rather than brand. Hm, this is giving me some great ideas! Thank you.

They're organized by brand, then by color except when I have a ton of different brands in something like silver.

Have you ever dropped a bottle of nail polish on the tile? I do it all the time. They've never broken or even chipped. And though we haven't had a huge earthquake since I put this up, we've had several smaller ones and these have never fallen.

I have dropped one and it shattered, but it was more launched out of my hand. But maybe if they are deep enough it won't matter. They slammed my door once and everything in the medicine cabinet fell over.
Do you swatch them? The julep ones I've been getting have a sticker to swatch them which I have really liked, I'm tempted to swatch all of mine with ones of my own.

I basically filled the bottom of a cabinet with my hoarde of polish. And they're arranged in a rainbow.

Yes! I want a rainbow. So yours are by color, not brand? I go back and forth on how I'd want them.

Yep! I have a LOT of different brands (as in I'm not particular about who makes it, I just go by what it looks like) so I just keep to the rainbow:)
