Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
5'10. Bit on the thin side but pretty muscular. Yeah.
2. How old is he?
Every time someone asks him this in-game he gives a different answer because he prefers immortality and frankly I really have no idea what is actually is. It's never exactly mentioned in the films. The Pirates wiki is guessing he's 40-something. I actually read an article in some magazine once that put him at '33' but where they got their source from who knows. Let's see in Price of Freedom he's 25 so +13 years with that Davy Jones deal...
Jack's 38. Possibly. It's not really important.
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?
It really depends on the situation. He stands straight in Captain mode but he ends up looking so much sorter than Barbossa a lot of the time due to slouching over a bit.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
Probably gets dehydrated every now and again. Littttle malnourished but other than that he's fit and he's pretty damn healthy for a pirate. No physical disabilities. Nothing on him is rotting or anything. No hook hands. He's fit as a fiddle! ...Though he may have had a heatstroke a couple of times depending on who you believe. I guess you could call his weird crazy an illness pfft.
Do STDs exist in Disney? We might want to look at that sore...
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
Like a drunken lizard. He's not exactly clumsy because he doesn't trip over his own feet at all but by no means is he walking gracefully. It's this unsteady swaying walk and a really flail-y run
like this. He's one of those guys where you stand close thinking you need to catch him but he never actually falls over.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
He's Johnny Depp as a pirate. That would be a very big: YES HE'S MIGHTY FINE. UNF. As for how he perceives himself, he thinks he's pretty damn good looking but probably wouldn't call himself the 'hottest man alive' or anything and is on the level of not-caring-so-much unless he wants to get laid or needs to be a respectable pirate (can that even be said together?). Though if someone else gave him that title he definitely wouldn't deny it.
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
Tall, dark, and handsome? He's tan. He's got this cut on his jawline that never seems to go away and a nice branded P near a wrist. Couple of scars here and there but nothing huge and hideous-like. A deleted scene says he has 2 bullet wounds in his chest and a big scar down his arm buuuut that's a deleted scene and you never see those otherwise so I say they don't exist.
8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style.
His hair is so big because it's ~full of secrets~ ...listen it's...very complicated. He has a lot of dark hair that's sun-bleached/lightened in spots. Lots of dreads, lots of braids, and so many beads and coins tied in there. It's a hair of wonders.
9. What color are his eyes?
Dark brown.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
Yeah he's got these cheekbones that are unftastic and-- Tattoos! Lots of 'em. He's got his sparrow going across the sun he made himself (or is that a swallow?), the entire Desiderata intricately written out down his back, and some other random ones that aren't important...
Also he's got a couple of gold teeth in that mouth of his.
11. What are his chief tension centers?
Ahh I'd say his head. He rubs his temples sometimes. Jack probably gets headaches like a boss and not because he's hungover (though maybe that might be a factor in there...). He does quite a lot of thinking and stressing and people are MORONS and he wants to shoot something.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
Pirate-y. Ha ha. He has one outfit and when it starts smelling enough or gets ruined he steals something else.
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?
Nothing he's wearing was probably made for him and it's all kinda dirty and a little big and he doesn't really care. He's damn comfortable in them though. If he wasn't he'd take it off. ESPECIALLY the hat. That's maybe the only thing he didn't steal and handpicked just for him. He really really likes his hat and it fits him perfectly.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
Did I mention he has one outfit? Unless he's going undercover and throws a judge robe over himself, decides to impersonate a soldier for shits and giggles or whatever, he's not changing anytime soon
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
There is no such thing as underwear. Commando. FREEEDOOOOOM!
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
Like Johnny Depp. ...okay it's deep and a little raspy, I guess?
2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
Most of the time he talks fast and depending what the topics and who it's with he's either very loud or low and very mumble-y. Either way it's going to be hard to follow if you're not paying attention and he doesn't quite want you to follow. If he's not trying to walk circles around you with words he talks pretty damn clearly and softly. He talks very easily and rarely hesitates though he is prone to tiny little pauses here and there if he switches thought mid-ramble.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
Oh yeah. First of all he's got a British accent. Verbal ticks would be...speaking uh-- pirate-y? You know he'll say 'm'self' instead of 'myself.' Though his pirate-speak isn't quite as strong as most of the other pirates.
Sometimes he'll talk a lot or just be introducing himself and then say "savvy"
He likes the word savvy, okay.
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
HA. English he speaks perfectly though he prefers to not be proper with it and go all pirate-y. He speaks Umshoko, which is the language of the Pelegostos. He probably knows French completely for the hell of it, Latin, Spanish, ...bit of Chinese, Malay, Japanese, Turkish...
A lot but nothing completely fluent but enough to be understood and make proper trade all over the place.
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
Nah. He mostly sticks to English.
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?
Anyone talking to him would probably always assume he's impromptu. Words words and more words very fast. He thinks about his words if he's in manipulate-liar mode but he does it really really quickly and he talks in circles a lot. Word-vomit Jack. There's no way you could ever tell.
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
Are we going to call a pirate eloquent? Okay here we go: He's got a nice vocabulary. He's really good with words and wit and talks his way out of everything. Forever. By no means is he inarticulate.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
More like sea-smart, amirite?
Come on that was funny. To go by William's words: "this is either brilliance ...or madness." Jack's ridiculously smart. He knows a lot. A lot a lot. There's rarely a situation where he can't puzzle a way out of and he's pretty damn good at reading people. (He manages to talk Davy Jones out of killing him right away and giving him an extra 3 days? How even, Jack?)
Traveling the world has got to give you a pretty decent bit of knowledge. Now if this is just him being really crazy and lucky or if he's actually a genius mastermind is debatable but I say it's crazy-smart. Book-canon added on says he's also a history buff and oddly enough excellent at math. Why would a Pirate know math?
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?
Ah ha ha. The question. "Is he making it up as he goes along or does he plan it all out?"
Your answer is YES.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
He's... Logically idealistic and intuitively practical.
4. What kind of education has the character had?
A piratecation. Nothing formal. At all.
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
He's an expert in all things pirate related and sailing-like. Aiming: Guns, rocks, arrows, himself out of a canon. He never misses. He would be the best dart player ever. He says he's an expert on women but going by those slaps that's up in the air. And sex. He's a master of sex. Can you be a sex expert? Yes, yes you can. ...And cheating.
He'd probably be interested in learning more about everything. Everything. Give me all your knowledge.
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?
Oh god. Extrovert. Why are you even asking that?
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
He's got this calm free-spirit thing that works pretty damn well for him but he's also ridiculously driven with his goals. He's usually really cheerful and laid back. Rarely depressed or pissed off but he can get that way if the situation gets from bad to worse and worse still.
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
Depends on the person and situation. Like really. I can't even get into this question. IT REALLY REALLY DEPENDS.
9. Is he more likely to act, or to react?
Act!
10. Which is his default: fight or flight?
Flight. Run away run away! Fight to run away.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
Yes. He has a huge sense of humor. Jokes, puns, pranks, grim jokes, stupid jokes, sexy jokes...
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?
Oh boy. Let's not go deep into diagnosing and digging to find out if he fits the entire check list of narcissistic personality disorder or anything and write paragraphs about this and cover the very obvious canon disorders laid right out in front of us..
He's got schizophreniform disorder! ...What? See Davy Jones' locker really messes him up and since in On Stranger Tides he seems just dandy again it's not full shizophrenia but schizophreniform! It's like the temporary version of schizophrenia. You're fine (or fine-ishly eccentric and drunk) and then you're completely off your rocker for 1-5 months. Now you're probably like: "That's a little too serious for Jack, Jackie!"
No, no it isn't. He starts hallucinating talking to many many versions of himself. Audioscopic hallucinations and then tiny lilliputian-audioscopic hallucinations after getting out of the locker. Also a hallucinated goat? ...And one of his hallucinated versions of him is a chicken for some reason. Let's go down the list of symptoms for this: delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, such as not making sense, using nonsense words and/or skipping from one topic to another (He's rambling on about a garden party that you're not invited to. Who 'you' is when he's rambling that is anyone's guess), odd or strange behavior such as pacing, walking in circles, or writing constantly, and lack of energy, poor hygiene and grooming habits, loss of interest or pleasure in life, and withdrawal from family, friends, and social activities.
Yuuup. Sounds about right. Now I could actually argue out he's a full blown residual-type schizophrenic but let's just blame the rum instead.
OH HO. Yes, the rum. Jack's an alcoholic. That's a disorder.
Nobody's going to argue that he's not with me, right? Yes? Okay let's move on...
13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?
....ugggggh. EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING. I...can't even. Too many to name. I'd have to say the Becket-thing was the ~biggest~ moment though with the slave ship he refused to properly deliver the cargo for. Then he made that deal with Davy and it was like wooop.
14. What does he fear?
Losing his freedom. Becoming dependent. Being forgotten. Death. Marriage. Feelings of affectionate nature-- you know those ~stirrings~ people get...
15. What are his hopes or aspirations?
FREEDOM. IMMORTALITY. BEING A PIRATE FOREVER AND EVER...
The usual.
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
Well he sure as hell doesn't want people to think he's capable of being attached to other people that's for sure. ~Stirrings~ guys. There's no such thing as feelings.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents.
They don't really mention his mother at all but headcanon brain and going by his personality states that he cared for her quite a bit. His opinion of putting women in high respect probably came from her being the coolest nicest lady ever. She probably wasn't around much.
And now DADDY... He's got this deep respect for him even though he's scared of the guy. They got a pretty good relationship. Teague is such a badass and always pulled through for Jack so he has absolutely no reason to ever doubt or dislike his dad. In fact, in the books, he desperately wants his approval and wants to be ~just like him~
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
No siblings here.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?
PFFT god yes. Let's start with Grandmama. Teague's mother gave Jack horrific nightmares as a child. I'm pretty sure she traumatized the hell out of him. She beat the crap out of him and came close to killing him a couple of times with those. Yikes. ...He doesn't hate her though. She's still an awesome pirate (and WHY IS SHE FLIRTING WITH BARBOSSA? WHY?)
Then there's his uncle "Ace" who was also abusive. His second aunt, his cousin Valerie (who is so awesome) ...and then a bunch of annoying kids from Quick Draw who are also mean. What is with this family?
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?
I wouldn't go so far as to say he considers anyone family. At least not knowingly. Barbossa's kind of like this weird older-brother figure that you can gang up with and do awesome shit and scolds you and teases and then tries to kill you...
And he really got close to Elizabeth and Will but I have no idea where to place them in a family position.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
Jar of Dirt Elizabeth, actually. Until she kills his ass and then Will gets promoted.
Or if he currently hates the two of them: Default to Gibbs.
6. Does he have other close friends?
LISTEN... He has this weird love-hate relationship with everyone he knows and I'm not even sure if they can be called friends or not.
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
...Depends on if they like pirates.
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
.......uh. Family?
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?
OH GOD WHY ARE YOU ASKING THIS? Single. Forever single. Single and having sex with everyone in Tortuga.
10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
WHAT SPOUSE? NO SPOUSE. THERE IS NO SUCH THING.
11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?
Hehehehe~ The first was Esmeralda Maria Consuela Anna de Sevilla! He met her when he was nine. ...And I'd have to say his latest is Elizabeth difficult to figure out.
12. What does he look for in a romantic partner?
NO.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?
NOOOOOO.
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?
Everyone.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the
Kinsey scale?
Jack's a 3. Listen in Davy Jones' locker one of the Jacks is sliding on over to make the moves on a goat and Johnny Depp implies he's pretty damn bi. He will screw anything.
16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him?
Sex is awesome and should be a repeated practice.
17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
He doesn't like tentacles. Everything else might be fair game. Maybe.
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (
zodiac of
choice) sign? How well does he fit type?
...Welp. They never say his birthday but I decided it was November 2nd because Iforgetwhy at 4am one morning. That makes him a Scorpio.
Going by this site's description I think it fits pretty well.
And I have absolutely no idea which animal the Chinese zodiac was on in the 1700s and I'm too lazy to go look it up if it's out there.
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?
Uhhhhh. He's not exactly religious but he's open to the idea of it and should he be faced with death would gladly go to the nearest missionary and ask him how to get a ticket in. Little bit spiritual and so very superstitious. He's very very open to ideas but is a sort of a mix-and-match kinda dude and doesn't have a set religion or anything. Religion isn't too important but he wants his soul to be safe okay???
He's also seen meditating in a scene in Dead Man's Chest but he probably does it more for the calming effect than spiritual needs.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
THE PIRATE CODE. We shall follow it. His dad is the keeper of it, okay? These are important. He's big on following them but doesn't sometimes? ...He mostly just goes to benefit himself unless he really likes certain people.
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
Tolerant and just a bit curious.
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?
I'm not sure why but for some reason he keeps dissing the French. He also doesn't like non-pirates because they tend to do things like try to hang him.
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
Pirate.
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
Pirate.
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?
Pirate ship.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?
Pirate things.
5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?
Pirate.
6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?
PIRATING!
7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
LOL RUM.
