Bill Bryson - The Mother Tongue: English and how it got that way
Um, the title should pretty much clue you in as to why I think you'd like it, but I'll give you some details anyway. This book is AWESOME - it's a fantastic book about all the weird shit in English. It's really well-written (very genial and entertaining and often hilarious) and has a crapton of little gems in it (like a list of some of the words that Shakespeare invented, and constant notes on words that are now obsolete but that should totally be brought back into the common vernacular, like HELLIFEROCIOUS). Plus it's just mad interesting to find out where all the bizarre irregularities in English spelling/pronunciation/etc. come from. GREAT BOOK.

Barring Pride and Prejudice and Zombies which I should think is obvious for the ridiculousness that is the Bennett girls forming a Pentagram of Death, and Twilight which I did not enjoy reading and suggest you run from with the speed of all the gods...

How about you try out The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield? There are a couple of reasons this book was kind of awesome, one of which is that it's a mystery novel but focused on a mysterious past rather than a murder which makes the story compelling. There are some horrible things present in the book that are guaranteed to make you cringe, because of the perfect package ending but the journey to get there is cool. There are some super FUBAR'd characters, including a sadistic brother, and a pair of twins who are incapable of normal interaction, a ghost, and a whole slew of colorful side characters that pop in
