A deep, nuanced review of Game of Thrones

Thursdays are job hunting day for me. Also general tidying, grocery shopping, errand running, what have you.

Today, though, I couldn’t do anything until I’d finished reading Game of Thrones. I sat in bed reading it after LM went off to work, and aside from forcing myself to take a shower before I was done with it, I spent all morning curled up with ( Read more... )

Thursday is often job hunt day for me too.

Awwh I really want to reread it! I read it when it first came out (I was part of a SF&F book thing where you paid a certain amount a year and they sent you new releases based on your previous interests - it was a birthday present) and wasn't that impressed but I was only little and they are quite long and wordy.

I am very much a fan of Wolf Hall though.

I kept trying to post this over at your off-LJ blog, but for some reason it wouldn't let me. huff puff.

Here is my rejected comment:

Andy, I've deliberately resisted paying attention to the buzz surrounding this series all this time, even though at this point I feel like I know the entire plot of the series purely from the unrelenting peripheral exposure. (Also, Sean Bean is in the series and I like Sean Bean...??) That said, I think you're one of the only people from whom a gibberingly positive review would actually induce me to action. So mark me down as feeling OFFICIALLY SWAYED. Ish.

::blush:: aw shucks. Glad you're swayed! I mean, the book is pure popcorn, but it's incredibly yummy popcorn, which is sometimes just what a girl needs. I think GRRM has definitely studied up on his history of the Wars of the Roses and the Tudors, so if that's your kind of thing, it's a fun time. I haven't seen the tv series yet, but I Sean Bean is perfect casting for his role.

I hope wordpress isn't being stupid...!
