h2g2.com lost a lot of its core essence imvho when the bbc took over. Not least was their shift away from Mr Adams dream of having the entire site accessible via wap and mobile phones. The "real" guide (as featured in the books) was at its most powerful because it was connected. Researchers could be in a restaurant, and over desert write a review and have it sent back across the sub-ether net for distribution almost instantaneously. h2g2.com was intended to be similar, accessible by anyone from anywhere, but alas it failed. It also failed to gain widespread credibility and public awareness in the way that, for example, the wikipedia has.

I don't know if this made much sense, or that you agree, but there you go. :)

I made sense of it, but since I havnt been there in years I cant really say if I agree or not, due to a lack of facts, but thank you for providing some.

Im not really sure why the bbc need to try and move onto wap, there was a perfectly good implementation in place when they took over surely? As for the rest Im not really qualified to comment, but it somehow, dosnt look, from a short trip round the outside of the current site, to be open enough to input and change.

The Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, based on a "Wiki Wiki Web", a concept wherein every visitor, to every page on the site, can modify it in any way he or she see's fit. Thus if you find an error, or have some extra info to provide, you can easily, and anonymously if desired, change it. Abuse of the system is fairly rare and easily corrected since the revision history of every page is maintained and you can easily access a list of changes and the full text of the page before those changes were ( ... )
