Lola Chong in "Dark Knight Returns" anonymous August 23 2008, 05:00:47 UTC
Andy, patron saint of bloggers,

I just finished reading "The Dark Knight Returns" and noticed what I think is a significant shift in characterization for Lola Chong between the third and fourth books. Is this the case, or am I conflating two different television broadcasters -- one whose job is actually reporting news (Lola) and one who focuses on celebs and hair and fashion and such?

What do you think about the alternate fourth book? (And how do you think this relates to the shift in Lola's character?)

I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Thanks, Alicia. aliciad.watkins at yahoo dot com.

You aren't confusing Lola Chong with another character, it is her in the fourth book. I imagine the shift in characterization has to do with Miller having to change his original draft for the fourth book, but it's been awhile since I read the script so I couldn't confirm that (for the record, the changes were for the better, as Miller works best with an editor that can tame his worst elements). That, and the media satire of DKR was always the weakest element of the book, so it's possible he just got sloppy.
