sam: apparently we made the long rice "all wrong" according to mom

ginger goes in with the chicken. boil for 1/2 an hour
turn OFF stove and let noodles soak in the broth for 20 minutes
add green onion at the end
don't forget to salt to your liking (it SHOULD be salty, like you would make chicken noodle soup salty)

but but chicken noodle soup should never be salty! That would be disgusting!

every serving of chicken noodle soup that i've ever had, whether it's out of a can, at a restaurant, homemade, whatever, has been ever so slighty salty. that's not disgusting, that's good. i'm not talking about it tasting like the ocean. jeez. and chicken long rice SHOULD be ever so slightly salty.
