What a great analysis. You made some good points about Connie. I can buy what you said about her giving Lucas a type of absolution. I wish I could think of some more clever things to say after such a great post but the words aren't coming. LOL
I totally agree about your theory on Connie sort of... shouldering Lucas' resentment. Whether she was truly to blame or not, the fact that she could see the big picture in cutting him free from the anger was a huge thing.
I absolutely agree - I'm not sure my theory is completely convincing, but you are absolutely right - Connie giving Lucas his freedom is certainly 'finding what was lost'.
Sounds like a fic that you should definitely, definitely write. :)
Connie and Ros are such fantastic characters - I was sad that Gemma Jones would be leaving, but at least it meant that Connie got a lot of screen time in the final episodes, if only she could have had as much before!
Despite all that had happened, I didn't want Connie to get hurt and I think that's the key here. - I agree so much with this. I mean, she killed god knows how many people over the years and she has absolutely no remorse, but somehow you can still feel for her. I don't know whether to congratulate Gemma Jones, the scriptwriter or the director for that genius. Probably all three.
Hmm, that's the second time I've seen the theory that Connie was lying about betraying Lucas. Not that I don't believe it, but it never occurred to me when I was watching. I think if she was lying, Lucas would know, and I can't figure out what he'd think about that. Maybe he just needed someone to tell him it wasn't Harry's fault, wasn't anyone's fault, it just happened.
I really thought it would be just me who thought that about Connie because I was quite desperate to explain her actions away somehow - but if someone else has said it then it might actually work! I agree about Lucas - I think that Lucas would/might still be able to tell and I'm not sure where that fits in to my theory. Connie's comment, 'what you've lost can sometimes be found' that made me think it more than the action itself, but it was quite an ambiguous statement. Maybe that's the way it will always be...
When I recently re-watched all the episodes, I found that Connie in her first episode seemed pretty defeated when Harry asked her to come back. It appeared to be as if she realised that she didn't get out of the game alive after all. As if she thought before that with her retirement from the service, she has cheated fate, that she wouldn't go down for being a traitor and that nobody would ever find out. When Harry pulled her back in, she must have realised that she didn't get away with it after all.

I really liked Connie and I felt that I had to explain it somehow... I'm just a bit weird that way! :)
