Let us know how it goes -- I've been curious about the Kindle. And an actual book reader's opinion is of more value than that of a pure techno-geek who is just interested in the Kindle as another cool device. :>

Amusingly, most of the one star reviews at amazon are from people who say things like "The web interface is clunky" or "you can't buy kindle books for other people", or other stuff that makes me want to shout IT'S A BOOK READER.

snicker.

I suppose it is nice to know that there are people more clueless than I in the world. Or disturbing to know that. Hmmm.

It's sad to me to see friends getting embroiled with DRM-encumbered hardware. I'm glad that there are DRM-free books for the hardware.

Amazon provides a conversion service that converts documents to the kindle format. If you want this wirelessly delivered to the device, it costs $0.10. (It's free if you use a USB cable.)

One concern I have is that if the kindle takes off, maybe Baen will stop offering their non-drm ebooks for sale and in their library.

Mmm, interesting. Though, apostrophe alert! ("it's beauty")

There is no such apostrophe problem. All gone. :)

Yesterday, I rather embarrassingly made two apostrophe errors in the same sentence, and it's in a comment I can't edit on livejournal. I feel so dishonored.

I hope it catches on. DH and I bought RocketBooks a bunch of years ago and we liked them very much, but they never took off.

I hope it catches on.

I hope it does to. One of my reasons for buying is that if Amazon is backing it, there's hope. I had to wait a month to get mine, so it does seem like it's popular...
