Today marks the birth of a very special man by the name of John Winston Lennon. Normally this would be a celebration, and it is, but since he's passed on it's rather difficult to make it through the day without tearing up at least once.

John would have been 69 today, and surely would have happily spent the day celebrating Seans birthday with Yoko and the family. Maybe Paul would have gotten together with Ringo, like a reunion between brothers. But it makes no difference, at least now that both George and John have passed on.

My friends page was divided, with one half ranting about Obama winning a Nobel peace prize (I may touch on this later) and the other wishing John a happy birthday. I know how I feel, but I wonder more what John would have said? I'm a fervent believer in Obama but I don't quite see the point of giving him one so soon, especially when theres so much work to be done still. It's a shame, you know, because I truly and honestly feel John is exactly the type of person we need. Someone to kick us out lazy arses into gear and keep us out of the dark, exercising our right to protest, our right to fight against what we're forced to accept as a norm... Had he lived longer I'm positive he would have done some amazing things.

It's a damn shame. Such a shame he's not here anymore. We all miss him but his presence is here today, just as strong as it was during his life. Someone else said this in one of the many birthday posts but John, you were much too big for this world. And unfortunately, I don't think things have changed much since your time. Was it naive to wish for peace? To wish for a world where people choose to love inside of hate? I don't think so. I'm not sure it'll happen. I'm not sure about a lot of things and my heart is feeling extremely heavy but I know I'll keep trying. I believe in love. I believe in peace. And most all of all, I believe in me.

This is bordering on becoming nonsensical, creepy rambling at a rapid pace so I'll wrap things up. Perhaps I'm stepping out of line but I ask of all of you but one request: listen to Imagine. Please. You don't need to be a fan of John, or a Beatles follower, or even have the slightest interest in music. Please take three measly minutes out of your day to do this. If not for John, do it for me. The song is what I, and many others would call, an anthem for those who embrace pacifism. I ask not that you love the song, but that you take great care to listen-- not with just your ears-- but with your heart.

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
