2020 End of Year Meme

Dec 31, 2020 14:57

In about 8 hours I will officially say goodbye to 2020. Thank goodness, right?

To wrap up this terrible, horrible, no good, very bad year, I've gone ahead and filled out the usual year-end meme. You can find that below, should you be interested.

1. What did you do in 2020 that you'd never done before?
Experienced a worldwide pandemic. Virtual teaching. Started on anti-anxiety meds.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
LOL. No. This year did a number on me in many, many ways, and I most definitely did not stick to anything I'd set for myself. I am making some goals for 2021, though. I'll be posting about them in a few days.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
My dad passed away on August 3rd.

5. What countries did you visit?
None. That whole pandemic thing, you know.

6. What would you like to have in 2021 that you lacked in 2020?
More dedication to my health. I did a really bad job of that in 2020.

7. What date from 2020 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
March 17th, when my school was shut down for what turned out to be the entire year. August 3rd, when my dad passed away from cancer. November 7th, when Biden was officially declared the winner of the election.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Just making it through.

9. What was your biggest failure?
I don't think I had one, considering everything 2020 threw at me.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Anxiety-induced heart palpitations/lightheadedness that resulted in me going through several tests that thankfully turned up nothing.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
My new MacBook, a headset for virtual teaching, a Yeti coffee mug, my Nintendo Switch, and Animal Crossing.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Our superintendent's, when he decided to follow science and data to make decisions regarding our school's closing, both in the spring and fall.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Trump and the myriad Republicans who've jumped on board his coup attempt. And all of his brainwashed followers. Police who continue to kill unarmed Black men without consequence.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Things for my classroom and bills.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Getting my Nintendo Switch Lite and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. That was SO GOOD for my mental health, at least in the Spring/Summer.

16. What song will always remind you of 2020?
No idea.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

i. happier or sadder?
Sadder.

ii. thinner or fatter?
Fatter.

iii. richer or poorer?
Richer.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Read and exercise.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Doom-scrolling on Twitter post-election. Stressing about work.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
I was with my parents and brother at home. We opened presents and had a big turkey dinner (a la Thanksgiving, because that's how we roll). I played a lot of Pikmin 3 on my Switch.

22. Did you fall in love in 2020?
Nope.

23. How many one-night stands?
None.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
I watched a really good documentary on the Jeff Davis 8 called Murder in the Bayou. I also restarted Dark Shadows and have had a blast going on adventures with Barnabus, Julia, and Quentin. I'm still not finished with all 1245 episodes.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No.

26. What was the best book you read?
I did a really horrible job with reading this year. I just was not in the place for it with the whole pandemic. I returned to old favorite fanfics instead. That being said, I did read a few. Of all of them, I'd recommend Stamped by Jason Reynolds for the general audience, and Teach Your Class Off by CJ Reynolds for anyone in education.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I didn't make one.

28. What did you want and get?
Virtual Learning to start the year.

29.What did you want and not get?
A chance to see my dad before he passed away. People to take the pandemic seriously and stop acting like it isn't real and/or serious.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
None.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 38 and we had cake at home, and ordered in really yummy shrimp alfredo from Pasta House.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Getting to see my dad. Not having to deal with a pandemic.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2020?
Leggings and tunic tops. Yoga pants and cardigans. It is 2020, after all.

34. What kept you sane?
Friends on Twitter. Crime drama reruns. Dark Shadows rewatch. Animal Crossing.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Always and forever Jensen Ackles.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Trump's insistence that there was election fraud and the way he's managed to brainwash so many people into believing literally every single thing he says. McConnell sitting on Covid relief for months because he can. RBG being replaced by an inexperienced, conservative judge when they wouldn't seat Merrick Garland in 2016.

37. Who did you miss?
My dad and Lisa. Friends. My students from last year who never got to finish out their year.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
I didn't meet anyone new. 2020, again.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2020:
That I can survive anything, even if I'm not thriving whilst doing so.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
I don't have one this year.

And that's that! Happy New Year, y'all! ♥
