Fandom seems like such a frivolous coping mechanism. Does doing stupid fannish stuff make it seem like I don't care? I'm not sure what else to do, so fandom it is.

If you get some stupid, bubbly comment from me, that'll be why.

It sounds like you've been having an awful time lately, and if fandom stuff can give you even a moment's reprieve from stress, can keep you distracted in any way, then you damn well deserve it! Anything that puts a smile on your face is worth your time. *snugs*

Thank you. I feel as if I should be weeping over someone's bedside and tearing my hair out. I just can't do that.

Definitely not - making yourself sick with worry doesn't help anybody. The best way to stay positive is to allow yourself to get lost in something that makes you happy, something that stops your mind going over and over the same stresses. I don't think of it as a coping mechanism so much as a necessity - people need 'me time' on any given day, but even more so when there's something, anything, that's causing them to feel down in any way.

Hey, you're going through a lot of tough things right now. If fandom works as a coping mechanism: fantastic! Go leave all the bubbly comments you want.

Fandom definitely helped me keep my mind off of things. My mom had no such distractions, and made herself physically ill. I can't live like that. Fortunately, things are looking up!

I'm off to write something with absolutely no redeeming value to celebrate. *g*

That's what fandom does best IMO. That's why I'm here.

People who look down on fandom don't know what they're missing out on.

Man, my main coping mechanism consists of marathoning shows/books/comics for hours and hours on end and sometimes frothing about them on twitter. It works pretty well, too. (Although if it worked well enough, I wouldn't have to keep doing it...)
