As Arthur had said, the keys to the safety deposit box arrived with her mail in the early afternoon the next day.  She wasted no time in getting herself down to the bank to retrieve the box.  She was nervous as she gave the bank worker her keys, knowing that her name wasn't on the box and not even sure what name was on it.  She managed to keep get ( Read more... )

When Arthur’s plane landed in Paris, it was an hour behind schedule, but he took his briefcase and his suitcase and went immediately outside to hail a cab. It took a half an hour drive through Parisian traffic to get to her apartment building.

After paying the driver, Arthur walked down to the intercom and buzzed her number.

By that point, Ariadne had retired herself to the couch to watch TV while she continued to wait, which of course led to her dozing off. The buzzer startled her out of her sleep but there was only a brief moment of confusion before she realized who it could be and went over to the intercom.

"Hello?" she said, once again sounding half-asleep. She knew it would be Arthur on the other end, but she wanted to be sure before she unlocked the door.

"Okay," she said before pushing the button to unlock the downstairs door. She then moved to unlock and open her apartment door, waiting for him in the entrance. She rubbed a hand over her face to try to wipe away the sleepiness and tried to smooth down her hair, to little affect. She was still in her jeans and a tank top, feet bare, she leaned up against the door jam as she heard his footfalls on the stairway.
