The last time I tried to bake a new-to-me kind of cake I made a ricotta one.

I still don't know what I did wrong, but it was almost entirely inedible - rubbery on the inside and bricklike on the outside.

I hope yours came out better.

Well, it's edible, confirming my theory that most people will eat almost anything with enough chocolate on.

I think my worst baking disaster ever was the weightwatchers lemon sponge debacle. I've come some way from that but, obviously, not as far as remembering to read the recipe carefully.

We have a number of excellent bakers in work, one of whom told me to only ever make cakes that used oil and didn't require any creaming step. Things have gone better since then.

One of the things I do shout at MC (and GBBO, this week) is "stop opening your oven doors!" as constantly checking to see if your cake is ready will stop it cooking.

Still, you used up your courgettes, which is a good thing :)

I'd left it for the advised time before I'd checked. My major failure was in using a slow/moderate temp rather than moderate/hot. I was never good at practical science, either. :)

I've not watched GBBO yet, will remedy that over the weekend.

I find the BBC Good Food recipes are generally winners - I have their little book of 52 cake recipes and they are fantastic. I would expect a cake with oil + courgettes to be extremely dense so maybe it's supposed to be like that?

It should be fine. Part of my problem is that I've got a nagging feeling I'm going to be delayed so won't need a room, IYSWIM. There will be somewhere I can go if I need to.
