Had an awesome trip to Montreal this past week-end. Aside from being unable to check my e-mail for a bit and some meetings, it was four days of sunshiney carefree bliss. *content sigh*
wednesday
The trip there was fairly uneventful. The bus was 20 minutes late because of rush hour traffic from downtown. While waiting, this girl started talking to me and we small talked about her upcoming weddings. (One modern and one traditional wedding in Toronto AND in Africa) She sounded super excited and a bit stressed about her upcoming nuptials. She was going to see her fiance in Montreal before he left for Africa. Super energetic girl, wish I could exude that type of energy all the time.
I got a seat by myself and slept about 4 hours. Woke up with a crick in my neck but overall a restful ride. Guillaume picked me up and we had a nice talk.
Thursday = "Meeting Day"
busy busy thursday. I had lunch with my friend Casey at Eggspectations, home of the extensive egg menu. I was floored by the selection of foods that contained eggs. I ordered the Eggspectation and "Pink", a yummy strawberry cranberry fruit smoothie thing. mmmm... rubs tummy in contentment. ^^
I had a meeting at the bank and now have the rest of the summer without paying fees. whoopee! Then I had a meeting with the environment commissioner and we had a nice talk. She's a cute Chinese girl and really into everything that she works on at McGill. She has a
Blue Planet compost bin that I found cool. I think I'll get one of these for our SUS Office next year as my commitment to environmental change.
I had to go check out my new apartment and the landlord was giving us a hard time about putting up our wall. Damn people who take advantage of students!!! I don't have money for a lawyer! Grrr....
After this frustration, Catherine (my future room mate), Guillaume and I went out for dinner at Delifrance, then went to check out Francofolie, a festival to celebrate all that's wonderfully French Canadian. Those Quebeckers know how to party... wild stomping and dancing. me and cath tried to swing dance, didn't turn out so well cuz i don't know how to follow.
TGIF
Totally relaxing Friday, no meetings until 5:30. Recovered our credit card money, so all was good. After the meeting Guillaume and I met up for a walk down in Old Port. It's soooo pretty! The sun was setting and everyone was out on the boardwalk enjoying the fantastic weather. We couldn't afford any of the restaurants so checked out a pizza place in the Village and did some people watching. Great evening over all. =D
Saturday Night Fever
Went to see the Montreal fireworks festival at la Ronde. I also got to walk around la Ronde after it had closed. ooohhh.. very similar to Wonderland but everything's in French! I really want to go on the ferris wheel. I feel that la Ronde epitomizes my elementary school french experience and really want to see the city from the ferris wheel.
On the way back home, we were waiting for the bus and this group of teenagers swarmed the bus, pushing and shoving. I'm pretty sure they were high as the smell of weed floated in a cloud above them. They must've pushed this guy really hard cuz he got mad and pushed back cuz next thing we could see was a bunch of kids streaming out of the bus and this man, bleeding from the back of the neck. We were going to go but I came back and offered my cell phone. I called 911 (was put on hold!!!!) and an ambulance was on its way. We decided to walk back after that, because the bus was obviously not leaving any time soon.
We walked a couple of blocks and saw the same group of kids at a bus stop waiting for the same bus. There was a police car a bit further up who had stopped a bunch of boys and we let them know that they had the wrong people. I wonder if the kids saw us and had sudden paranoia that they were going to hunt down me and Guillaume and we were going to get beat up in some horrible gang-related event. *crosses fingers that I'll be lucky and stuff like that doesn't happen*
Ran into another cop car a bit later, a fat guy was sitting on the curb in handcuffs, obviously piss drunk and ready to pass out on the sidewalk.
and phew that was the end of any more run-ins with the cops.
Day of rest
quiet day. went to meet marta to get a gift and then i was off for home.
went out for dinner for father's at a little chinese restaurant near the Dragon Centre, quite good.
Spent an hour helping my sister with her math homework. She was freaking out about her exam cuz she was cramming for it. (like always) after some frustration on both our parts, I crawled into bed in exhaustion. =)
