The shouts and whispers from the hotel carried me as I moved through the city towards my destination. They would assist me... it was their force, their workings, their... machines that had depleted me of my power originally.
They would restore it.
I walked through the doors, entering the confines of the building that was both familiar to me in that other life - now, so far away - and yet completely foreign. I did not recognize the female, but Fred's memories did.
"Lilah Morgan."
Like a file, I pulled the information about her forward until I knew all that was required to know about the mortal. The male, however, was another story. I tilted my head as I walked closer to him, eyes narrowed. "Lindsey," I whispered, sensing the energy surrounding him.
I looked up just in time to see Illyria walkin' down the hall, and had to look over to see the look on Lilah's face when she was recognized. I know that Illyria took a lot of Burkle's memories when she took over inside the girl's body, but I wasn't sure of how extensive it was.
At least this takes care of the waiting though, and that's half of the problem. The other half being how to deal with her, but I guess that'll come in time.
"Lindsey,"
"Illyria." I nodded to her calmly, tryin' to look as respectful as I could. It wasn't as hard as I thought it'd probably be. Get it over with, and hope there's at least slightly smooth sailn' afterwards, even though you know there won't be, no matter how bad you need it to go perfect.
"How did it feel when Lorne murdered you?"
There's somethin' I really want to think about, what it felt like to be shot by the Green Guy and not even see it comin'. Angel was supposed to kill me, but he sent someone else to do it. Didn't even dignify me with someone who could fight, hell no. I

So soon? Our liaisons didn't specify due date on their goddess. If the Senior Partners would like us to sign Illyria, they'll have to be patient with us. It's a virtue after all; and they know as well as any other being, human or otherwise, that virtues are easily taken from the weak and manipulated by the powerful. If they think they're above waiting a little, they have some disappointment coming to them.
And gee, I really feel guilty about that.
"Or do we just wait for her to come to us, like how it usually happens?"
"That was fast."
We'll save time by not having to look for her, isn't that just dandy? It's too bad that she's here for a power-up so soon that we haven't had a chance to throw together a game plan. I shouldn't be so surprised, it always works out this way, especially when you're attempting to hire an ego on indigo legs.
"Lilah Morgan.""Don't wear it out." I smirked into her eyes, trying to get a grasp on what it was about this thing that I found so refreshing. She did bear a striking resemblance

"Like a disgrace. Not exactly the most dignified way to die."
I nodded to the mortal Lindsey in agreement. "Warriors should die on the battlefield, not be extinguished behind lies and trickery. You fought bravely by our side and were repaid with treachery." It had seemed unfair when the vampire had told us all of what had occurred in the rain during the beginning of the Great Battle.
I did not like Lindsey - but I did not think that ill of him that I would wish such a death upon him.
Lilah Morgan, on the other hand, was one who I had not personally worked with previously - my only knowledge of her were the remnants of thoughts that Fred had kept hidden. My eyes narrowed at her as she spoke to me.
"We'd like to discuss our interest in you Illyria. A magnificent creature such as yourself doesn't go unnoticed by us. As a matter of fact, we were hoping that you'd come by, and now seems to be as good a time as any to work out an agreement that will benefit both your needs and ours.""Silence," I said, raising a hand to quiet her words

"I could lose much, Lindsey. I could lose what little is left of my life. And you have yet to reveal to me how you will do all of this without damaging this shell or why you will not do so all at once."
The amount of honesty in her tone did surprise me a little, but not that much. I guess she thought she had common ground with me, we'd both been betrayed in multiple ways.
“Illyria, forgive me for ignoring your demand of silence, but according to the head of our science division, Wolfram & Hart is equipped with the technology to restore your power using your current form.”
I nodded in agreement, if Illyria trusted me at all at this point, I'd assume she'd take that as a notion that things were okay. Even if she didn't trust me -- which was the more likely of the two -- if she had a good knowledge of Burkle's memories she knew there was no way in hell Lilah was liable to keep her mouth shut for more than two minutes.
“We need you in Lindsey’s office. Now.”Knox. I still don't see why they didn't pick someone else, but I'm sort of

Of all the things I expected, this certainly wasn't one of them. It was almost like one of those fantasies where everything went just the way you want them.
Well, until Lindsey pointed out the difficulties with the contract. The senior partners weren't stupid, they knew enough to keep me on a /very/ short leash.
And Illyria-
The God-King actually wanted me to help it? She had seemed less than pleased last time I was in her service. When you get right down to it, she let me die. The fact stung quite a bit. And now she wanted me to assist in her greatness?
Of course I wanted to, more than anything. ANd of course, there was a bit of bitterness towards said vampire and his cohorts, seeing as one of them had murdered me.
Could I risk ditching the firm this time? Until I actually made a decision I was left glowering at Lindsey. Subtly, of course. I was intent on dying.
I'd only just made it back to my own office when I received a call from one of the higher ups. Talk about omniscience. There wasn't a single thing the Senior Partners didn't catch. Illyria was in the building, and both Lindsey and Lilah had engaged her in conversation. I could only hope that things were starting to work in our favor as far as Illyria was concerned. As I'd said before, she was a wildcard. It was going to take a lot of effort and energy to get her to cooperate with us.
Giving her back her Qwa'ha Xahn? Not exactly helping us in the cooperation department.
Just as the Senior Partners knew that Illyria had arrived, they also knew that Knox had been summoned to Lindsey's office so that he and his goddess might be reunited. Mr. Almstedt was quite sure to tell me what a bad idea he thought that was before asking me to correct the situation

"Sorry to interrupt, but I need to borrow Knox for a bit. I promise to return him when I'm done. Senior Partners' orders. You understand, of course."
Don't tell me the Senior Partners don't approve of our methods. Are they afraid of the job being a little too well done? I asked him in here so that Illyria could see the possibilities that still exist for her within the firm. Life, death, that irritatingly unequipped body of hers. We can give back her power more easily than it was taken away
