Wandering...

((Cont from HEREI walked away from the building, the seemingly endless meetings coming to an end for now. I was satisfied with... certain aspects after speaking to the one known as Hamilton. My business with them was, certainly, far from over, yet ( Read more... )

After gettin’ the skinny on Big Blue, I set out to get some 411 on the sitch. Figured I’d help more doin’ that than tryin’ to stick around and pretend I was interested in researchin’. See, my way is still researchin’, just in a more hands on kinda way ( ... )

I paused in my stride, then stopped altogether as my head turned slowly to face the being following me. The energy signature was unfamiliar to me, yet... something about it...

Unable to discern what it was, my eyes shut but for a moment, and reaching out with one hand, the memories of Fred surfaced and then vanished.

"Faith."

The remainder of my body turned to follow my head, jerky yet catlike motions that led me ever closer to her. The songs no longer whispered to me, but I knew in my soul that she was there... waiting... watching. Had she been sent forth by the vampires?

"Come out, little one. I would wish to have words with you."

That was not a lie, unlike so much of my life and so much of what had occured recently. I needed to discover why she was following me... was it to end my existance? To find out more information on the workings of the Wolf, the Ram, and the Hart ( ... )

"Faith."

I raised my eyebrow. How the hell did she see me? I thought I was bein' all stealthy.

Guess not.

"Come out, little one. I would wish to have words with you."

Little one? Oh, now we got a problem when I'm gettin' called names like that. A serious problem.

"You might wanna watch who you're callin' little."

I stepped out from behind my cover, my eyes fixed on her and my lip curled into a sneer.

"I've been called a lot of things in my life, but 'little' definitely ain't one of 'em."

I crossed my arms over my chest, tiltin' my head to the side as I studied her. Damn. She looked so much like Fred, it tripped my ass out. I know they warned me, but man, I guess you don't know til you see it for yourself.

It was Fred. Plus the added blue-ness she had goin' on ( ... )

"You might wanna watch who you're callin' little."

One eyebrow raised in confusion, since despite all her powers she was - indeed - little compared to me. I waited as long as possible before she answered my query... her energies were odd, displaced, as if...

Was she not a part of the group that had died only to be reborn?

"I dunno. Maybe cause somebody put me here. Then chose me to fulfill some prophecy. You know that whole Slayer gig. But the me bein' here, that's somethin' I ain't figured out yet. Only thing I can say is that the Powers that Be wanted me here, so... Here I am. Or did you mean, here. As in right here where we are?"Her words were quite confusing to me, yet I sensed she was, indeed, attempting to reach out to me in some manner ( ... )

Skitter, skitter, skitter, that's all these mortal drones know how to do, I thought as my company car slid easily through the downtown L.A. traffic. They run around, thinking so much of their own importance, satisfying their insignificant little desires and then dying in a thousandth of the time it took the universe to blink an eye. Oh, sure, every now and then a handful of them might strive for something more, try to be greater than their lot... and almost all of those end up getting squashed like the insects they are ( ... )

"Look man, it sucks. Trust me, I know the whole outsider gig... Been there. Story of my life. Just promise me you won't go all Norman Bates and try to off everyone just cause they ain't treatin' you like one of 'em."

My brow furrowed at the Slayer's choice in words. "Norman... Bates? 'Off everyone'? You continue to confuse me, little one." Of course, that was nothing new - most mortals here, even the ones who could tap into powers greater than they realized - eluded my understanding.

"Just give 'em time. They'll learn to accept you. Hell, took 'em a while to let me in too. Especially after that whole evil gig."Yet, what was evil? Was evil simply a choice that was different from what the vampire said was correct? If he spoke and proclaimed that my long-dead army was evil, did that make it so? Who was the judge in this world of what was evil and what was supposedly 'good ( ... )

"Norman... Bates? 'Off everyone'? You continue to confuse me, little one."

I started laughin'. Blue cracked my ass up.

"Never mind yo. I'll fill you in sometime. But, we're gonna have to do somethin' about this whole you callin' me 'little one' shit. I ain't one to be judgin' givin' nicknames, 'cause hell, I give 'em to just about everyone. But, come on Blue, little one? You ain't got nothin' better than that to call me?"

Next thing I know, some fuckin' suit rolls up on us, bowin' and spoutin' out some kinda bullshit to Blue.

"Forgive my intrusion, great and dread lord Illyria, but this humble servant comes bearing news that may be of interest to your terrible self."

"Rise"And of course she was eatin' it up with a fuckin' spoon. I rolled my eyes. Don't get me wrong, I dig a little ass kissin' sometimes but not so much from Evil, Inc. or nothin ( ... )

"Rise... Speak."

I stood up to my full height, towering over both female forms, but still doing everything I could to be as openly obsequious to Illyria. Now I had my dignity and my pride, of course, but both were always seconded to my ambition, something of which I had quite a bit to throw around. Besides, there was something about the untapped, so far unfocused and almost wasted power contained within Illyria that was highly magnetic.

"My greatest thanks, dread lord... it is always the greatest of honors to speak in your presence. I--"

"Didn't realize I was comin' to a meetin' of Ass Kissers Anonymous. See, my kinda meeting is more along the lines of Murders Anonymous. We're just hopin' that treatment took and I don't start hackin' people up again. Sometimes I just get this itch to though. Ain't sure how much longer I can ignore it."Ah, yes, I reminded myself-- the reports from Wolfram & Hart's original dalliance with Faith had indeed included McDonald's observation that the Slayer had a distinct tendency to seek out ( ... )
