Perchance to Dream

As a rule, my sleep is typically deep and dreamless, or at least it has been for the past year or more, and I've found that to be my preference. I hung up the phone and simply stared at it, rubbing the back of my neck with my hand. I didn't need to be an expert to know that Nina was hurt; her voice sort of said it all. There wasn't much to say after that initial '...don't think things are working out anymore,' speech. Still, all things considered, she took the break up rather well. Better than I had expected, which was a real relief ( ... )

I turned round, almost startled by the sound of his voice, having not heard him at all approaching. A split second after that thought came the admonishment from the back of my mind that of course I couldn't hear him, given his being a vampire and all ( ... )
