Absolutely. Those contexts matter and it's appalling that the govt is ignoring this and rejecting that any of this has an impact. They know it does. They have to know.
The main reason I focused on the media stuff in my own post on this is because in stupid ways it's done nothing (with some notable exceptions, LIKE the Guardian) to really explain the issues of disaffection and what it means and how to treat it, and instead decided to focus on the concept of young people feeling entitled. I mean what adult doesn't know that a young person expressing feelings of entitlement has very complex OTHER things going on, and that a disconnection from community (to the extent that you can feel it's okay to loot and pillage) is entirely likely in those circumstances. Surely the problem is how folks feel so let down by the system that they no longer feel invested in it?
Anyway, yeah, thanks for the links mate. Glad you're okay and safe of course!
I hope that you keep safe. It seems clear to me ( not that I live anywhere near you) that a society with restless and disenfranchised youth has to decide rather they want to pay now with programs to help educate, support, and challenge, or if they want to pay later with riot clean up, high prison populations, and less of a tax base. I agree that you can't excuse the behavior, but stuff like this never happens in a vacuum.
