On my soap box

So the UK based among you will probably know that a great number of public sector workers are taking strike action today in protest against proposed changes to state pensions.

Nutshell version for others: increased contribution for less payment back and retirement age up from 65 to 68.

There are people more clever than me who have written about it

here:basic q&A

Why people are striking

and if you'd like to get invovled in some way to show support at all, there's information here
local events to support

Sorry for tubthumping - but I really value the right to strike and this feels so important.  It feels like an idealogically driven cut on the public sector to protect the powerful and leave the weaker out in the cold.  This is about saving the public sector, about making sure that good people continue to want to work in the public sector becaue the pay conditions are equitable and fair.  And when workers feel like the governement isnt listening, all that's left is to strike.

So go on, as the Doctor would say, save the world, be extraordinary

unions, taking a stand, real life
