Berwick-Upon-Tweed just held a referendum in the town of Berwick on whether they want to be Scottish or English - the results came back 2-1 saying they would rather be part of Holyrood.
I love you Berwick-Upon-Tweed :)

What brought on the referendum is a growing feeling of being forgotten by Westminster - now Westminster want to take away the council of Berwick-Upon-Tweed, placing them under the juristiction of a council 30 miles south of where they are.
Deciding that under Scottish rule they would have better care, education and health services, they held a public referendum, broadcast on local TV, to decide whether they want to be under Scottish or English rule.
Of course, it's not officially part of Scotland yet. There's still a bill to be passed. Apparently what they're planning on doing is having a vote on the bill in both Holyrood and Westminster. The will of the people is important, so assuming Scotland wants them, even if Westminster resists, apparently there's not much they can do :D
