Angela leads Melou out of the house, and because of the coolness of the air-conditioned house, it just seems that much hotter outside.

Not that Angela seems to notice or mind, of course. And it's not that hot, either. It's still morning! She goes into the garage to get her surfboard in its bag ( Read more... )

Melou, meanwhile, feels like he's just walked into a fire.

"How do you live in this?" He asks, squinting at her from a small spot of shade he was able to find.

She shrugs. "You get used to it, really. That's why all the swimming. There's a pool in the backyard we can use later on. Once the air conditioning in the car kicks in, it'll be pretty good."

She opens the window of the back of the yellow jeep so the end of the surfboard can stick out of it, and puts the cooler in the back. She walks around to the passenger side of the vehicle and opens the door. "This is my car. There's a seatbelt in there, which you'll need to put on while things are moving."

It's yellow. Melou? Looks less than confident.

"Yeah. It's not the only kind of car around, but this one is mine. This one can go just about anywhere, but most cars just stay on the roads. I promise, it's about the safest way you can travel around here, plus you'll be able to see a lot."

They've got time. She waits patiently for him to get in.
