Morning Musume Spring Live "Platinum 9 Disco"

A lot is going on in my life now, and although I still haven't heard back from the job interview I had on Saturday, they said they'll be finishing up interviews this week so I should know soon.  Either way I need to continue on with my concert reviews.

So Sunday was the only time I was able to go to the Musume Spring Tour, and it was everything it promised to be.  As usual this won't be a song by song breakdown, just my overall impressions and rambling.

First off, this was a non-stop high energy tour.  Usually the concerts have several ballads, or atleast longer MC segments that allow you to rest a little from cheering.  Not this one.  I'd say at most there were 4 ballads, though I'm only remembering 3: Ame no Furanai, Takahashi Ai's ballad, and Eri's ballad.  I suppose Kousui is a ballad but it has a lot of faster movements to it too, and even the 3 before involve a lot of cheering.  Other than those all the songs were fast paced, with a lot dancing and cheering from the fans.  And the MCs seemed a lot shorter than usual.  The bell rang to cut off the MCs a lot quicker than I remember at any of the other concert tours.

One funny thing during the Koharu/Junjun mc is how much those two seem to be at each other's throats.  And it really doesn't seem to be acting.  They have started out normal yet ended up in an argument every time I've seen them live since the fall tour.  This time it was over whether or not Junjun would really wear the accidentally torn tights that Mitssui wore around all day once.  And they just kept going back and forth, the bells for them to get off stage must've rung 4 or 5 times.

Koharu's voice has improved a lot.  I mean before whenever they let her sing live they usually cut it to backup vocals halfway through and suddenly your ears stopped bleeding.  But this concert she seemed to be live the whole time and it was tolerable.  And there were no Kirarin songs, which even though Kirarin ended I had expected them to pimp out her song one more time, but they didn't.  I don't know if they did for the afternoon show but atleast at the evening there were no Kirarin songs.  And that might've had something to do with her voice.  Because before she took on the overly cutesy role for Kirarin, her voice was tolerable.  So i'm proud of her, she's come a while.

Speaking of great voices, Linlin's voice is amazing.  I had heard the concert rip of her soulful bluesy style rendition of 'Aozora' on youtube, but hearing it live... wow.  She's another one who for a while got into the role of using a very high nasally voice to speak and sing with, and this performance proves that she actually has an amazing voice when she's not forcing herself into a role not suited for her.

Takahashi was spot on as always, and though I was never a big fan of her, I'm being sucked in more and more.  Yeah she's way too overused, as before her the leader of Morning Musume barely got any lines in songs and she gets EVERY line in the songs.  But she's talented, and she deserves the spotlight she's getting.

Sayumi is dead sexy!!! I mean I never really noticed it before this concert because usually she's doing the cutesy thing and acting way too young for her age.  But wow when they give her a sexy song, and the right outfits, she looks amazing.  I mean her performance had her hand going down the side of her dress seductively and I'm pretty sure I drooled a bit.  And then they did this shot where they blacked out the whole stage so you just saw her silhouette dancing seductively infront of the brightly lit neon screen, and it was lovely.

Mittsui has also come a long way with her voice, and her solo proved it.  She's nowhere near perfect but she really has grown up in the past 2+ years, and it's great to watch her grow and mature in the group.

What else... well this was by far the gayest concert I have ever been to.  I mean I know it was "Disco" themed, so all the goods had sparkly patterns or disco balls on them.  But this really was like flashback to the gay disco.  I mean right from the opening the stage had a bunch of neon lights and a friggin RAINBOW staircase of light going up the stairs and then onto the digital screen.  Then all the outfits were either awesomely disco or horribly disco (the main bad outfits being this hawaiin patterned hippie cher thing they wore for the encore and the weird flower/condom pattern things for Guruguru jump (but I forgive them in that song as it's a ridiculous song so the ouftis kinda work)).

On top of that they must've done over 10+ outfit changes.  I mean in the first 4 songs they had 4 outfits. One for opening 2 songs, another for the opening MC, ripped off that one and another for the next song... then another.  And it kep going and going, it's like damn they do not need to change every second they are on stage.  But apparently the costume designers think otherwise.
