I'm starting to notice this as I move about in Second Life and in recent years in real life.

It seems that I have to be convinced that it is in my best interest to learn something before I take the time and effort to learn it. There are advanced building techniques and LSL scripting available to be learned in SL, and you will be among the more ( Read more... )

I wish I had a good answer or really ANY answer for you. I done the work thing both ways . . . climb the corporate ladder from the bottom rung to management (and consequently down and out) and the university thing for the sheepskin. Neither has worked out for ME. I think you and I are alike in one sense; we're both square pegs for a round hole world. I think I would have fit back better in the WWII era than this modern one.

You'll be in my thoughts and prayers and I hope something good comes your way.

Get away from the software and study something that doesn't become obsolete quickly. My studies with Prepress have taught me that you have to keep up to date with all the newest software and be proficient in it until the newest software comes out to replace it, so you're always playing catch-up.
Doctors, however, study medicine, which doesn't change in the important areas that are covered in studies on the subject. Also, if you study education, you can be like the colleges I've gone to, and bilk people for money so they can learn more useless software. At least then your position is secured by your teaching experience, and your willingness to be a clumsy teacher in every new program that comes out. The college is paying for it, so why not play around with it and teach out of the book?
